Dr Asburn Pinnock, president of the Mico University College explained that “the Mico COVID Relief Fund was launched at the end of May 2020 as an effort to raise funds to aid students who are unable to connect to their classes remotely due to a lack of resources”.
Mico Old Students Association (MOSA) chapters in New York, Florida, Jamaica, Canada and the UK worked together to raise the funds, which will cover funding for tuition, laptops, care packages, as well as other items the institution will need to further care for students.
In her presentation, president of Mico Old Students Association (MOSA), Dr Merritt Henry, emphasised the Mico University College’s focus on student assistance and development, explaining: “I am passionate and excited about the funds raised and I am really happy the alumni locally and internationally went the extra mile to meet the needs of the students.”
With $1.5 million as a good start, the Mico recognises more needs to be raised to continue the relief for the students. In that regard Burchell Duhaney, secretary manager of the MICO Foundation and past president of MOSA called on all graduates to support the fund as the institution continues to prioritize the welfare of its students.
“We have come a long way but let us continue to increase our efforts to do more for our students,” he expressed.
