This achievement saw Aarons finishing sixth among the hundreds of Jamaican students who sat EDPM in the regional exam.

The diminutive 17-year-old also earned distinctions in information technology (IT) and integrated science, in addition to copping range two in mathematics, English Language, principle of accounts and principle of business.

“It’s a great achievement knowing that EDPM was one of my favourite subjects,” Aarons told Old Harbour News in a brief interview.

She was among several students who were recognised by the school at a special function last week for outstanding academic success. Regarding the occasion she said: “It’s a good feeling, knowing you are recognised”.

Aarons, however, has opted to skip sixth form to work in the family businesses – Cordon Travel and Di-Hub Restaurant. Working in the family establishments played a crucial role in her studies, she said, contending that “it helps with time management” and being organized.

Her dad Zephaniah ‘Popeye’ Aarons was most pleased. He told Old Harbour News he wasn’t surprised by the exceptional results achieved by his daughter.

“I know my daughter is capable of doing anything because I have been growing her in business from birth; and I use the Chinese and the Italians and the Japanese (as examples) who raise their children to be self-employed and independent from birth,” said Mr. Aarons, the owner and operator of Di-Hub Restaurant.

In tipping his daughter to take over the business in the future, Aarons added: “She has always been doing two jobs per day. She pushes herself to the farthest and never tells me no as a father. She’s always ready to work, ready to do business.”
