Old Harbour man slapped with 51 months prison sentence for sex with minor
The sentence was handed down by Justice Marcia Dunbar Green in the St Catherine Circuit Court on Tuesday.
Clive Burrell, 59, was convicted of the crime after pleading guilty on July 4 along with his co-accused 64-year-old Ivan Fothergill.
On the day of sentencing, Fothergill, said to be a friend of Burrell and participant to the act, withdrew his original guilty plea and will have his case tried separately on October 23, 2019.
The court heard that in October 2017, Burrell and Fothergill lured a 14-year-old girl into a house at Succaba Gardens, Old Harbour and had sex with her.
The girl reported the crime to her parents who immediately informed the police.
An investigation was launched by detectives from the Old Harbour CIB and the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) following which both men were arrested and charged.
During the trial period, both men were offered bail which was only taken up by Fothergill.
