Old Harbour murder victim Davion Wilson a Jamaican gem
In fact he was a total stranger to the area and in the days after his death, investigators were having real difficulty identifying him.
Initially it was said that he was unemployed and a resident of the notorious Kingston community of Seaview Gardens.
But almost two weeks later more information on the deceased are now coming to light, which the police hope will assist them in nabbing his killers.
On Monday, a woman who said she knows Wilson very well contacted Old Harbour News to clarify some inaccuracies published in our first report.
She identified herself as Taniesha Campbell, a sister (not biological) of Wilson. The relationship between herself and Wilson, she said, is like that of siblings who shared a close bond, spanning over two decades.
During our conversation she shared that the now late Kingston College old boy is a highly qualified professional, possessing a master’s degree in business and management and travels between Jamaica and Canada where he’s a permanent resident.
His LinkedIn page confirmed this, while providing further insights about the deceased who was also classified as a transformational leader with a strong background in results generation as an executive board member of the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals. He was also a contributor to the Canadian Sick Kids Foundation, sang as back-up singer with gospel artiste Jermaine Edwards, and a devout Christian.
During his time in Jamaica, Wilson worked as a consultant with Scotiabank on its external credit and marketing portfolio, was a supervisor at the planning office at his alma mater the University of the West Indies and also a senior credit analyst at GraceKennedy Corporative Credit Union.
“He’s a management consultant and he travels between Jamaica and Canada because he was taking care of his ill grandfather when he was killed,” Campbell told Old Harbour News.
“He has been going to his grandfather, managing his grandfather’s care because his grandfather recently got several strokes and has been in and out of the hospital; and he’s being back and forth caring for his grandfather. And any family member can verify that that is so.”
In essence, Wilson was an upstanding Jamaican and wonderful human being who had a tight group of friends and family including his two siblings. He was not married nor had any children. Both his parents are alive and live in Kingston
“Davion is a very careful person,” she continued. “So if he had gone to Old Harbour it must means that he trusted the person. He told me that he was going to hang out with a friend. That’s what he messaged me and he told me. I am not sure who the person is because he didn’t say where he was going on Friday. I don’t know of him frequenting Old Harbour at all so it’s very shocking to me.
“Everybody is taking it really, really hard. His grandfather has gotten worse because of the news when he learnt that he didn’t come Saturday morning. His father is extremely devastated, his mom, his brother; I am devastated. Everybody extremely devastated. UWI, Taylor Hall especially, is in mourning because Davion lived on Taylor Hall for several years while he attended university.
“UCCF (the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship), the all-island ISCF (Inter- School Christian Fellowship) in Jamaica because he was a major contributor to the ISCF in Jamaica. So it’s really devastated right across the board. People have been messaging me from all walks of life, from his Canadian community, Australia, America, all over just devastated by the news because of the reach and impact of Davion. He is a gem and he’s really missed and people are saddened and heartbroken and it has really left a void in our hearts.
“Davion has been so much more than that and I really pray that whoever did what they did to him they will pay and that we will get justice for Davion because Davion did not deserve anything that he got. He was just the best person ever, the consummate professional.”
According to reports, about 8:30 pm on the day in question Wilson was sitting on the outside of a premises with another man, when he was accosted by armed men who dragged him to bushes nearby.
Few gunshots rang out thereafter, following which Wilson was found dead. The police have since taken into custody one man who they believe can assist them with the investigation.
