Old Harbour rape suspect charged with burglary, more charges pending
He was charged just over a week ago after being pointed out in an identification parade, one senior investigator informed in an Old Harbour News follow-up.
However, the suspect is yet to be charged for the more serious crimes of rape, as the police’s forensic unit continues to analyze several data taken from the crime scenes of victims who are cooperating with the investigation.
In late May the police setup a dragnet and nabbed the suspect who has been fingered in several recent cases of house break-ins and rape.
Investigators are confident that they have captured their man based on statements given by victims whose descriptions of the accused were all familiar.
Prior to his capture, the alleged serial rapist was implicated, alongside another man, in the rape and sexual assault of a 35-year-old mother and her 15-year-old daughter in Old Harbour.
His partner in crime remains at large following his arrest.
And even though he has been charged with burglary, investigators have withheld the identity of the suspect due to the sensitive nature of the rape accusations and the implications such a decision could have on the victims involved.
