Old Harbour youth loses kidney disease battle
His mother Gloria Morgan informed Old Harbour News that her son died this afternoon at the Spanish Town Hospital five months since he was first diagnosed with renal failure.
It has been a rollercoaster journey for the youthful 21-year-old ever since the first signs appeared that he was ill.
His condition, to the surprise of many, disintegrated rapidly over the months, wiping out the family’s finances. The situation forced Miss Morgan to appeal to the Old Harbour community for help.
She claimed help did not come despite her cry as Thomas, who was a construction labourer, passed away today.
She also criticised the hospital for being negligent and believes their treatment of her son led to his ultimate demise.
Following Thomas last dialysis treatment Saturday, he was due today for another round of treatment. But according to Morgan the health facility that he was taken to in Portmore refused to treat him because the file for his blood work was not in his docket.
"They se dem ago send him over ‘Public’ (Kingston Public Hospital) and when him get him paper him can come back,” Morgan said. “And him start get ignorant and him just have heart attack (and) by the time him reach Spanish Town Hospital him dead.”
Morgan said her son had a heart of gold and is someone who freely gives without reservation. He had big dreams of buying her a house, she told Old Harbour News and pulling the family out of their impoverished state.
