President Trump says he has ordered U.S. forces to launch precision strikes against chemical weapons facilities in Syria.
The president made the surprise announcement Friday, saying France and the U.K. joined the U.S. in coordinated attacks.
Three separate bombings occurred at three different facilities throughout the country, according to reports.
President Trump condemned the actions of Russia and Iran for their actions assisting the Assad regime.
Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antanov condemned the attack, and indicated Russia may up the anty as he said there will be consequences.
Presdient Trump added the actions taken by the three-country coalition aren’t only to save civilian lives abroad, but defend Americans here at home.
Officials are certain the Assad regime used the outlawed weapons of war against his own people, according to the Defense Department.
Defense Secretary James Mattis said this attack was bigger in scope than last year’s strike on a Syrian airfield.
The strikes targeted multiple chemical weapons facilities, instead of just a single airbase like we saw last year.
President Trump said the U.S. is prepared to continue taking a reciprocal response until the Syrian government stops its use of chemical weapons.
