Shooter succumbs after daring Old Harbour gun attack
About 3:00 pm, two armed men on a motorcycle attacked another man in a motor car along West Street in the vicinity of Gateway Plaza.
However, an off duty cop who was on location at the time, challenged the gunmen, shooting both.
A 9mm Glock pistol with two magazines and 12 9mm rounds was recovered following the shootout.
All three were rushed to the hospital where one of the gunmen, who the police deemed to be the main shooter, died about three hours later while undergoing treatment.
He has been identified so far only by the alias ‘Chappo’ of a Glendevon, St James address, stated the police.
His accomplice and the victim remained in hospital receiving treatment.
Motorists are still being advised to utilise alternate routes as the area remains cordon off up to the time of publishing.
In an update the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) which investigates police shootings, has revealed the identity of the deceased as 21-year-old Shemar Clarke but did not provide any antecedents on him.
Old Harbour News understands that Clarke was staying with his mother who resides in a gated community in Old Harbour.
It is alleged that his mother is the woman seen in a video, circulating on social media, weeping at the blood splattered spot where Clarke was shot.
In a statement INDECOM said: The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) responded to and commenced investigations into the police fatal shooting of a 21-year-old male, who has been identified as Shemar Clarke.
“The investigation will include determining the origin of the gunshots received by the injured persons. A total of four vehicles were damaged during the incident.
“The concerned officer provided an initial account of the incident, to the Investigative team and was served a Notice to provide a statement and attend the office of the Commission to be interviewed, pursuant to Section 21 of the Independent Commission of Investigations Act, 2010.
