TagHeart Foundation gifts Marlie Mount teachers with cash prize
The kind gesture was in response to the overwhelming support the United States-registered charity received from the Old Harbour-based state-run institution during its inaugural health fair staged in June.
The educators: Sophia Thompson-Hamilton, Lacian Timoll and Suzette Miller-Hilton won cash prizes totalling $15,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively after participating in a raffle organized by the foundation, founded by Jamaican couple Dr Odette Thomas and Mark McTaggart.
As a charity, the TagHeart Foundation places special focus on the health and wellness of Jamaican teachers.
It made Marlie Mount Primary its first mission, which is the alma mater of Dr Thomas, who grew up in Colbeck district, Old Harbour. Her husband was born in Kingston and is a past student of Kingston College.
Dr Thomas is a physician and the current medical unit director at the NYU Langone Hospital in Long Island, New York.
“We wanted to do something to show our appreciation to the teachers who came out to our health fair in June. We wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer to our teachers for all they do,” said the Old Harbour native.
