Vaz Prep’s Sage Indalmanie to continue dream of becoming a doctor at Wolmer’s Boys

He has been working towards this objective of helping persons that are not well to make a full recovery, or return to some semblance of normalcy.

The Vaz Preparatory student who will be attending Wolmer’s Boys School in September, loves the sciences and did exceptionally well in his Primary Exit Profile (PEP) Examinations, averaging well into the 90s. 

He was one of the top students at the Dunoon Road based institution and plans to continue working towards his dreams while in high school.

“I am looking forward to accomplishing my goals to my fullest potential. When I leave Wolmer’s, I would like to get a scholarship to further my studies at university,” Indalmanie told Old Harbour News.

He describes his preparations for the PEP examinations as quite intense.

“My parents and teachers played an integral role in the preparation process and this led to my success. I had to read, make notes and understand the work that was given,” the 11-year-old said.

“Once I understood the concept of the lessons taught, I did not have much to worry about after that,” he added.

For his efforts, Indalmanie received awards in mathematics, science, music and the ability test.

  His mother Susan McLaughlin, who is also a teacher by profession, described her son as an independent learner, and often times used him as the ‘guinea pig’ for her mathematics lessons. 

“Mathematics is really my passion. I also have an appreciation for the sciences because it is practical. Sage is a lot like me, and he likes to see the body and how it functions,” she said. 

McLaughlin was elated that her son was successful in his examinations, but was somewhat disappointed with his overall score.

“He is fast learner and once he grasps the concept he does very well. With the onset of COVID-19, it was a bit difficult for him to transition to the online learning platform, but he persevered and continued to do well,” she said.

Nevertheless, she is confident that he will continue to do well at Wolmer’s and achieve his goal of becoming a medical doctor.
