Women share their joy of winning free eyeglasses courtesy of Old Harbour Optical
All three are from the community of Old Harbour Bay and a few months ago entered their names for a chance to win a free eyeglass courtesy of Old Harbour Optical.
And as luck would have it the trio was selected as the first individuals to share in the array of gifts on offer by Old Harbour Optical who is celebrating 10 years of existence in Old Harbour.
Last week, the women were invited to choose the eyewear of their choice after they were examined by an optometrist.
Each could not contain their glee as the reality sets in that they will not only be able to ‘see more, but do more’, as the company’s tagline states.
“Mi can’t even tell,” was Marcia Currie’s immediate reaction when asked how she felt. “Mi glad bag buss.” Currie heard about the promotion after one of her friends saw it on Old Harbour News, the premier community news outlet in these parts of Jamaica. She visited the store and enquired about how to enter.
“A di fastest mi sign up di paper,” she said in amazement. “And mi se ‘God do, do fada God mek wi win’.
“Most of the time mi eye dem foggy and mi cant si nothing,” she added. “And mi a se fada God mi no want blind enuh. When mi go home and mi a tell mi little son, him se come mek mi pray fi you cause mi no want you blind, cause mi want you fi help mi do mi homework.”
Currie said she was in the country atop a building when she got the fantastic news and could not contain her joy when she was told she has been selected.
Recalling that moment, she said: “Mi se thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus, mi win, mi win; and same time mi cousin se ‘a money you win?’ and mi se bwoy dis yah pass more than money.”
The friend, who told Currie about the Old Harbour Optical free eyeglass promotion, is Yvonne Palmer-Scott, who had also stated her cause as requested in the promo why she needed a new pair of spectacles. Scott-Palmer says she has been unemployed for a long while now and decided to try her luck because she’s not in the financial position to save towards the purchase of her glasses.
The Narine Lane resident said it was her oldest daughter who took the initiative upon herself and signed her up for a chance to be among the 10 lucky winners who will be selected during the promotional period.
“I am so happy to be a winner and appreciative and thankful to Old Harbour Optical, she said. “I have been praying and saying ‘God let me be one of the winners’ because I am well in need of the glasses.”
Claudette Dixon, who works as a tuck shop assistant at a school, says the reward is an early birthday gift that she will celebrate in August.
“I am very elated that I am one of the recipients from Old Harbour Optical,” said Dixon, who has difficulty reading her bible and receipts at work. “I am super excited to be one of the awardees. Thanks again Old Harbour Optical and continue to do what you always do for the community.”
Director, Old Harbour Optical, Gillian Byles-Lee said giving back to the people of Old Harbour is something they take great pride in doing.
“We have had the pleasure of serving the residents of Old Harbour and its neighbouring communities since 2012 to present. We have always tried to find creative ways to show our appreciation for their support over the years.
“Listening to the stories of each winner really warms our heart and serves as extra motivation to build and improve on what we have already established in Old Harbour.
“We are still encouraging persons to enter the promotion as it is ongoing until the end of August, and who knows you might just be a lucky winner like these three ladies,” said Byles-Lee.
