Mears, 50, died on March 29 in hospital following a massive heart attack.

The couple shared a union of more than three decades, which has produced two children – Rudyard Mears Jnr and Michael.

Since the very sad passing of her husband Mrs. Mears hasn’t spoken much.

But through her pen she let her emotions flow.

Writing in the funeral programme of her lifelong partner she said: “Words cannot express how heartbroken I am that you are gone. You were kind, hardworking, caring, strong-minded, and when necessary, stern.

“You were a fighter and in the end you reigned victorious. In that same light, I will fight; I will fight for the things in this life that my heart desires. I will fight for your hard work and your achievements, and what you believed in. I want to make you proud, even if it’s the last thing I do.

“Oh how I wish I could see that comforting smile on your face, but I know that you are smiling where you are- with your Lord and Saviour. I would give anything just to hear you say one more time ‘Dahlia don’t worry, everything is going to be OK.’ I always feel better when you say that. I am taking it that you are saying it right now so I am feeling better.

“Say hi to Mother Mears for me.

“I will always carry you with me. I love you with all my heart. Rest well my love.”
