Big Pond come over, Myton, Coburn gullies in spate

Persistent rainfall over the last couple of days, which has been moderate to heavy at times, has resulted in flooding in many areas across the country.

The disturbance in the weather is linked to the outer bands from Tropical Storm Zeta, over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.

As a result a flash flood warning has been extended to all parishes until 5:00 pm October 26.

Weather experts say the storm is moving away from the island, across the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days.

Numerous amateur images and video footages have been circulating on social media showing the severity of flooding on the island. In videos sent to Old Harbour News motorists were seen having difficulty making their way through murky waters in the vicinity of Sydenham to the Old Harbour round-a-bout, while some vehicles shut off in high waters captured on footages of St John's Road.

Several rivers and gullies are now in spate with the Rio Minho and Rio Cobre among the major ones listed.

In Old Harbour region, the Myton and Coburn gullies are also in spates with residents who are likely to be impacted conducting a minute by minute assessment of the situation.

And the Bannister to Old Harbour road in the vicinity of Big Pond is now impassable to small vehicles, residents have informed Old Harbour News.
