Agribusiness conference to highlight opportunities

The event is being hosted by e-Biome, Global Scientific Research and Development Consultancy with a vested interest in using science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to drive development in areas of agriculture, marine ecosystem, education and research.

“It has been recognized that the Caribbean faces many challenges in the agricultural sector. According to the CARICOM Agribusiness Development Strategy (2012), the agribusiness sector faces major issues such as poor post-harvest support and capability, general deficiency in data collection regarding land availability, the absence of comprehensive market information systems and limited marketing skills and exposure to international best practices of both primary producers and agro-processors,” the organiser stated in an advisory.

“Agribusinesses in the region present an opportunity to solve the challenges of global food security and job creation. As such, e-Biome’s Agribusiness Development Conference was conceptualized in an effort to bridge the gap with other related institutions to provide support for existing and emerging entrepreneurs. Additionally, we hope to increase youth participation in agriculture through business development services while providing solutions and strategies for existing problems faced by start-ups in agriculture.”

The conference will be held under the theme: Exploring Opportunities and Building Resilience on Thursday, November 26, 2020 from 2PM to 5PM/14:00-17:00 EST via ZOOM.
Keynote speaker is Floyd Green, minister of agriculture and fisheries.

Representatives from Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), the Agro-Investment Corporation (AIC), the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS), the Consumer Affairs Commission and World Citizens South Africa will also make presentation at the event and explore key areas such as finance, marketing and agricultural product quality management.
