DAILY DEVOTION: Spending time with God (4)
This concept has been applied to other areas of life: a team, thirsty for a victory; a child, thirsty for love; a prisoner, thirsty for freedom; etc. Young shepherd David has had a lot of times out in the field, where he built a strong reliance on the presence of God. He knew that this was the sweet life. Now he has moved on in life. The hustle and bustle of being a soldier and even a king has taken him away his sweet life. He longed for that. As we move forward at the speed of life, we easily can leave the important things behind. Our one hour devotion times can be zoned done to a decent 10 minutes or less. One day we didn't do it and even felt bad, but we eventually stopped and even the bad feeling is manageable.

If we are honest though, we know that there's a hole, a gap, a thirst. We try to ignore it, but it is there. We sometimes wonder if staying away is better but we know it's not. Let's go back. Take a sip of the sweet life. Allow the water of God's presence to flow deep in our soul. When water is available, thirst is a nice thing. Long for God; long for His word, which affirms His plans for you. Sing that song that used to cheer your heart. Enjoy the moment. Stay for a while and when you leave, come back sooner than later. If you thirst for God, obey your thirst - come, drink of Him!
Psalm 42:1-2 (NIV): As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
Shalom!
