DAILY DEVOTION: Claiming abundance (The Prayer)

Allison was taught by her mother to use discretion. When someone offers you something, never select the most expensive - no matter how rich the person seems to be.

This principle is fine, humanly speaking, but leave that attitude at the door when you are dealing with God. The people of Judah, in the days of the Prophet Jeremiah, had that puny prayer practice. God offered big things (Jer 33:3), but they asked for crumbs. For the church, Jesus also set the bar very high, stating that we must ask, so that we can receive and our joy will be full (John 16:24). We, however, have a way of praying for just enough to get by. I am encouraging all of us (myself included) to step into the abundance where Christ is calling us. Let's stop only praying for the cheap things that we could have gotten ourselves anyway. I am not advocating that God will give us everything that we demand, but I am saying that we ought to put the request to Him and leave the decision on Him. He has the wisdom to deal with us and our needs. Don't let it be said that we didn't get it simply because we didn't trust Him enough to ask. One human trait that marvels God is our unbelief (Mark 6:6). Let's commit today to put the big requests to God and trust our Father to "sort it out." (1 Pet.5:7).

James 4:2: but ....Ye have not because ye ask not
