Normal service will hopefully return to five National Water Commission (NWC) facilities that serve communities in Old Harbour.
The utility company said in an advisory that these facilities located in its Old Harbour Zone are experiencing "electrical issues" following yesterday's heavy rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Elsa.
"The NWC is advising that electrical issues have disrupted operations at the Colbeck, Spring Village, Rhoden Pen and Davis water supply facilities," the state owned company said this morning.
Since this morning the Marlie Mount facility has been decommissioned due to low voltage, adding to the vast number of residents without water. But service returned about three o’clock in the afternoon.
The NWC advised further that restoration of service at these facilities will be dependent upon the Jamaica Public Service.
Thunderstorm conditions yesterday caused power outages in many communities across the island, Old Harbour not being an exception.
Several JPS emergency units were deployed to the affected areas with service restored before the end of the day in some cases. More communities should have service return with weather conditions improving.
Yesterday JPS said it was "pleased with the overall performance of its grid islandwide" and that it is "preparing to do detailed damage assessments and repairs, weather permitting".
Across the parish border, the NWC is also reporting that "voltage issues" at its Longville Park and Palmetto Pen stations have disrupted service to areas served by these facilities.
