Schoolboys in their uniforms have been engaging in sexual transaction with prostitutes in Old Harbour, businessman and resident, Andrew Hanna, has claimed.

Hanna made the startling revelation during the February 26 town hall meeting put on by the St Catherine Municipal Corporation at Old Harbour High School.

He said: “DSP Duncan, principal Weir, it’s not only the game place students go to during the days. There is a mechanic shop across from Kaluga where the prostitutes hang out and I have seen boys down there in the days purchasing (sex from) prostitutes.”

He said he has raised the matter in person with Old Harbour High School principal Lynton Weir and individual cops, though a formal report is yet to be made at the police station.

And though the police are aware of the issue, Hanna says law enforcers seem overburden and therefore unable to implement a sustained strategy to dissuade the boys from buying sex from these prostitutes.

“So I am asking the police and I am asking Mr Weir again, because I see them down there whenever I go to the mechanic shop, to give that area immediate and urgent attention,” he said.

Principal of Old Harbour High School Lynton Weir, who raised a number of other issues of concern to the institution and community, is calling for greater support from the police.

“There are number of our learners who seem not to be interested in education and they find themselves before school, after school, during school time at the game shops,” he said.

“I am saying officers, we need your support in removing our students. I have gone there repeatedly and I have (said) to the individuals operating the (game shops) that they are selfish. Because if it is that they really want to make a ‘food’ (money), our students are properly identified in terms of their sleeves.

“So students on morning shift there is no way you should be entertaining them at that time. If it is after school, fine. So I beg of you as it relates to your support we need them (police) there (at the game shops).”

When contact by Old Harbour News, owner and chief executive officer (CEO) of Kaluga Kafe Adrian Samuda says he’s unaware of such nefarious activities as claimed by Hanna.

“I am not aware of any prostitution activity that involves school boys on West Street during the day time. I am aware that ladies linger on West Street in the late evenings but I am not sure if they transact sexual business with school boys,” Samuda told Old Harbour News.
