More pension resources available to Jamaicans to plan for retirement
“With private pension coverage at roughly 10 per cent nationally, a significant percentage of our retirees may not be able to enjoy an independent and dignified life in retirement. There is still a need for more work to be done in terms of changing the in terms of choice architecture and improving financial literacy,” she said.
The PIAJ will be ramping up its public education activities to encourage more Jamaicans to change the way they plan for retirement. She said this is one of several activities that are being planned to celebrate the Association’s 16th anniversary.
The association recently launched its new website to make information surrounding pension and retirement more accessible to Jamaicans.
“This new resource targets in particular work place entrants and young professionals on the rise who can most benefit from an early start to pension saving,” she said.

Meanwhile, the association has been engaging the public through a series of online discussions on retirement planning. The series continues October 29 on the topic ‘The Right Retirement scheme for me’, with Marie Lyn James, PIAJ director and Alicia Ganess, PIAJ’s media committee member, the main presenters.
The upcoming event is designed to assist self-employed and employed who do not have access to an employer sponsored plan navigate the retirement saving options available today.
