Singh, 25, won the prestigious title last night at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston, besting a field of 13 beautiful and intelligent ladies.

At the Grand Coronation, Singh, wearing the Miss Howard Johnson Reality sash, took the coveted crown ahead of Lineisha Davis (first runner-up) and Tahje Bennett (second runner-up).

It capped a remarkable year for the University of the West Indies medical student, who finished third in the Miss Jamaica Universe pageant earlier this year.

A flood of congratulatory messages immediately followed Singh’s deserved victory, with Prime Minister Andrew Holness encouraging her to go for Jamaica’s fifth hold of the Miss World crown, last won by Toni-Ann Singh (no relation) in 2019.

In addition to 2019, Jamaica won the Miss World title in 1963 (Carole Jean Crawford), 1976 (Cindy Breakspeare) and 1993 (Lisa Hanna).

Former Miss Universe Jamaica Davina Bennett, who placed third at the 2017 Miss Universe, also applauded Singh for copping the crown as well as the contestants, saying: “Congratulations Queens! You all did amazing.”

Singh, a native of Old Harbour, was among the favourites going into the coronation after winning the Fort Clarence Beach Beauty event and the Serengeti Talent piece. The latter was a traditional Indian belly dance, choreographed by her close friend Stacy Ann Nelson, who is another daughter of Old Harbour and former Miss St Catherine Festival Queen.

Nelson could not contain her delight last night for her friend.

“Now that I’m done screaming and crying words can’t express how proud I am of you. Some may not know but this is years of hard work and dedication,” she shared on Instagram.

“Congratulations BabyGirl. Again [a] very well deserved win. Now let’s go and represent our country on the international stage.”

Organisers of the Miss World beauty pageant are yet to announce a date and venue for the 71st edition.
