The armed robbery was confirmed by the police, while the thugs took an estimated $24 million in cash from the previous day’s sale.

About 5:50 am the police say the owner, a 79-year-old businesswoman, and one of her employees, a 32-year-old male, were in the process of opening up the business when four men armed with guns barged into the building.

The businesswoman was ordered to open her main office where the cash was being held overnight.

The gunmen then took all the cash that was in the office and also robbed the employee of his mobile phone said to value in the region of $25,000.

Old Harbour News understand that the employee was physical assaulted and had to seek medical attention, but the owner was not harmed.

The robbers then escaped in two waiting motor cars reportedly a Toyota Vitz and a Honda Fit.

Investigators are at the moment analyzing surveillance footage at the premises with the hope that whatever evidence garnered will lead them to make an early breakthrough in their investigations.

This is the latest in a series of money heist in recent weeks in the country.

Two days ago gunmen made off with $8 million from a remittance outlet in Mandeville, Manchester which follows two brazen ambushes within the spate of a month on Beryllium security guards in Portmore where more than $30 million combined were stolen.

The police have since arrested and charged one man, 24-year-old Shemar Yee of a Fairway Park, Spanish Town, in connection with the second Portmore heist.

In the wake of these high-risked money heists the police high command is contending that criminals are becoming more desperate as the state’s crime fighting mechanisms continues to strengthen its grip on how gangs fund and enrich their enterprises.

Before midday, normal operations had resumed at Buds Gas Station which has been serving the area for more than 40 years.
