An Old Harbour man on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent, will return to court in July.

Asfa Carnegie, 30, is scheduled to make his second court appearance on July 11 in the Gun Court where a determination related to the charges will be made.

Carnegie has been in police custody following an investigation by the Old Harbour CIB into the April 30 shooting incident in the unregulated settlement of Phase Two, Old Harbour Villa, which adjoins Smith Avenue.

One person was shot during the incident, with the victim alleging that Carnegie was the shooter
In his statement to the police.

Days later Carnegie was arrested and charged by detectives following a question and answer session.

When the matter came up for mention in Carnegie's his first court appearance last month a new date was proposed to give both sides additional time to glean through the case files.

The police say that Carnegie, who goes by the alias ‘Prince’, is the alleged leader of the Sparta Gang operating in the community.

He was one of eight persons of interests in Old Harbour who was charged five years ago under the Anti-Gang legislation, but was among those acquitted.

However, Lesbert Smith, otherwise called ‘Grazmite’ of the said Sparta Gang, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment under the Anti-Gang legislation after pleading guilty on three counts under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisation) (Amendment) Act of 2001.
