Old Harbour Health Centre to close for one day
In a notice shared with Old Harbour News by management, the community’s primary state health facility stated that the decision forms part of the St Catherine Health Department’s continued drive to be more receptive to its patients.
Over the past few months the Old Harbour Health Centre has experienced interruptions in its service to the public due to infrastructural weaknesses, rodent infestation among others.
The facility is quite aged and has long being considered outdated by officials given the rapid growth of Old Harbour.
The clinic is among several across the island already earmarked for construction of a modern health facility valued $489 million.
A parcel of land on Walker’s Road has been identified for building a new Type V comprehensive health centre.
Ground should have been broken more than a year ago, but the slow nature in the tender process means the current facility at Marlie Gardens will continue to operate amidst its obvious challenges to effectively meet its ever growing demands.
Patients in need of immediate care are advised to utilise other public health facilities nearby.
