Clarendon business owner frustrated after multiple break-ins
Yackisha Williams has had to make numerous reports of the break-ins to the May Pen Police Station on a bi-weekly basis since February. The 39-year old ventured into shop keeping to provide for her family and did not expect to be tormented by thieves.
“The shop is my only source to get money so mi pickney them can go school and mi just can’t believe them keep on a bruck it. All of mi investment in this shop and mi neva know this would happen in good good Coates Pen,” remarked Williams.
She mentioned that the break-ins began on February 11, 2024, when a resident passed her shop at 4 a.m. and noticed the shop door was opened. “The first time it happened I was on my way to work and realize Yack shop door was open so I called her and tell her then she told me thieves break-in and they never stop,” recalled a resident of the Coates Pen community.
Since then, thieves regularly break in to shop via the back door and steal items like money, liquor, tin food, snacks, juices, groceries and meats.
“Every time them bruck mi shop, them almost empty it. More while mi feel like fi give up but mi nah mek them stop mi shine cause mi shop a the backbone of the community, mi just need help from the police!” pleaded Williams.
Police officers who visit the scene urged Williams to provide the relevant information that can help with investigations, ensure that the area is well lit and install security cameras.
Despite the enhancement of security at the shop, it has not detered thieves from breaking into the shop.
