Yadel girls pampered, feted by Shades of Elegance
Nine girls and five ‘mothers’ received special treatment from hair makeover, to manicure and pedicure and lots more before being feted later in the evening at a small, intimate reception on the grounds of the hosts on December 17.
This yearly act of goodwill is event that the girls and the administrators at the home – better known as ‘mothers’ – anticipate with plenty excitement.
“Whatever we say we are going to do we just do it. We believe in caring for our community and the people,” says Treacha Reid, head of Shades of Elegance Salon and Spa and the brainchild behind an initiative aimed at inspiring girls living at the home to become model citizens of the society.
Reid later told Old Harbour News that while it has been a difficult year for her personally, her commitment to pampering and feting the girls and mothers at the home is an act of service that she’s committed to.
Guest speaker Cecile Johnson spoke on the ‘six most important decisions you’ll ever make’. She highlighted self-worth, school, friends, parents, dating and sex and addictions as key pillars that every human being must make a determination that will decide their quality life.
“There is no dumb question, only people who become dumb from not asking questions. Read. Locate someone in that field and ask if you can shadow them for a day to see what that job is like,” said Johnson, a UN Certified Human Rights Defender and Community Advocate. “Take notes. And do not be afraid to change your mind. Remember it is your life and only you can live it, so start taking charge of your future.”
