A further $40 million has been granted for the building of four additional classes for the infant department, Calvin Harris, school principal, announced.

Harris was speaking at a Parent Teachers Association (PTA) meeting last week on the school’s ground.

The project falls under the purview of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) and received approval in February of this year. Projection for its completion is set for eight months commencing January 2019.

When complete it will enable the 46-year-old institution, with a student population of just over 1,500, to return to the single shift for the start of the 2020/21 academic year.

The move forms part of the state’s education policy geared towards improving the quality of education being delivered.

Approximately 38 schools across the island are still operating on shift.
