The child has been identified as Jasmine Keeling, a student of Davis Primary.

The police have confirmed the incident. In its preliminary statement the police said Jasmine was spoken to by her mother about a tablet during which the child started crying.

Moments later she was found at the back of the yard by her mother hanging by a piece of cord around her neck.

Jasmine, the younger of two daughters for her mother, is said to have been experiencing behavioral issues for a couple of years now, Old Harbour News understands.

But it remains unclear whether any psycho-social evaluation was done to determine an appropriate course of treatment.

A large crowd quickly converged inside the yard as residents were alerted by loud cries from Jasmine’s mother.

Scene of Crime detectives were summoned to the area in which several statements were taken from persons who resides in the yard, including the mother.

Data material for further forensic analysis were also gathered and stowed away by detectives before the services of a funeral home was acquired to take the body to the morgue.

Within the community speculation is rife as to what may have allegedly led to the child taking her own life.

However, Old Harbour News has been informed that investigators prefer to carry out a thorough investigation before commenting on the traumatic ordeal.

Investigation continues.
