Accused goat thieves remanded
They have been charged under the Praedial Larceny Act after they could not properly account for five goats discovered in a Hiace van they were travelling in along East Street, Old Harbour during a police stop and search on July 31.
Seven persons were initially in the vehicle, however, investigators informed Old Harbour News that two have been released after investigation revealed that they are minors and were not acting on their own volition.
Investigation further revealed that the animals were stolen in the afternoon from the Thetford community in Church Pen.
According to the police two of the five accused men – Miguel ‘Indian’ Nelson of a Gordon Wood address and Sweetsop Lane resident Sean ‘Stinger’ Graham – have been identified as the mastermind behind the theft of the animals.
The police also informed Old Harbour News that both men have been on their radar for some time now in relation to similar offences in the past but they lack sufficient evidence to effect an arrest.
Investigators believed that both Graham and Nelson used deceptive tactics to get the other men, who are brothers from Spanish Town, to transport the stolen animals.
The animals were returned to the owner after he made contact with the Old Harbour Police Station following the publication of the incident by Old Harbour News.
The men are slated to return to court on August 23.
