Burger King coming soon to Old Harbour
“We have been waiting on building approval for Old Harbour for some time,” was her response when asked by Old Harbour News. “We are hoping to receive that this week.”
Lake made the announcement Sunday speaking to journalists following the official openings of Popeyes and Little Caesars Pizza at the Spanish Town bus terminus, along with Burger King and Popeyes in Angels, also in the Old Capital.
As the Caribbean’s leading restaurant management company, RAL has played a key role in expanding some of the world’s top fast-food brands in the region. Its latest ventures are being widely welcomed by the business community, political leaders, and the general public, as they create employment opportunities and contribute to community development.
The new outlets, which opened in December last year, have already generated over 100 jobs, the company stated. The RAL has been investing in Spanish Town for over 20 years, and according to Lake, the company sees even great potential in Old Harbour – one of the fastest-growing towns in Jamaica.
“We have all the plans and are ready to go and as soon as that happens we are ready to break ground. We are starting off with Burger King in Old Harbour and we have more to come,” she said without disclosing the exact location.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm, as Old Harbour currently has limited fast-food options. Meanwhile, RAL’s investment in Spanish Town is set to expand further, with Lake revealing plans to introduce six more restaurants over the next two years.
The newly opened Angels branch, located at the entrance of the North-South Highway toll road, is already performing exceptionally well, with sales figures “rivaling our biggest stores in other locations,” according to Lake.
Mayor Norman Scott, who chairs the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, praised the Richard Lake-led conglomerate for recognizing Spanish Town’s potential and investing significantly in its development.
Scott, who has overseen the town’s expansion, also expressed his vision to transform the sporting complex at Chedwin Park into a major sporting and commercial hub.
“I would love to see that facility [Chedwin Park] being utilized in other forms of sporting activities that can bolster the economy of Spanish Town,” he said.
Both the municipal corporation and RAL have committed to addressing traffic congestion near the Angels location, where increased activity has highlighted the need for wider filter lanes and additional parking for large vehicles, including trailer trucks.
