Five charged in Clarendon robbery
All five conspired and executed the crime which occurred about 5:30 pm on the day in question.
Two of the men, armed with guns, held up and robbed the cashier and other customers inside the Cross Fourway Minimart before escaping in a motor car.
However, moments later with the assistance of JamaicaEye – a state-run CCTV system surveillance of public spaces – the vehicle was intercepted in the vicinity of Jamalco in Vere.
A search of the vehicle was performed by detectives during which two 9mm pistols, along with 18 9mm cartridges, monies and other personal items belonging to the victims were recovered.
They have all been charged with robbery with aggravation and conspiracy, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
Those charged have been identified as George Robinson, a 21-year-old labourer; 31-year-old watchman Steven Williams, both of Race Track in the parish; and 38-year-old taxi driver Travis Gilman of Water Lane, Lionel Town. The identities of the boys, both 17 years old, cannot be made public under Jamaican law because they are classified as minors.
Investigators say they are looking at other crimes committed in the area, as well as partnering with neighbouring police divisions to investigate if the men have been involved in other robberies.
A court date is being finalized.
