The Food Safety Girl hosts charity event in Old Harbour
The event will take place on November 30, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Old Harbour Baptist Church, in collaboration with the Optimist Club of Old Harbour.
This event will distribute 50 grocery bags to families in need; each bag containing essential food items and information on safe food handling practices.
As part of the initiative, attendees will also receive educational materials that focus on key food safety tips, hygiene practices, and proper food storage methods to help reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
"We are thrilled to partner with the Optimist Club of Old Harbour for this important event. Our goal is to not only provide essential food supplies to those in need but also equip them with the knowledge to make safer food choices and understand the role food safety plays in health and wellbeing," said Richards, who is the host of The Big Bite Food Safety Show.
"Foodborne illnesses remain a significant issue globally, and we want to empower Jamaicans to take proactive steps to protect themselves,” she added.
The Food Safety for Good charity event will feature food safety presentations, where Richards will speak about the importance of safe food handling and share simple, actionable tips that can be applied in everyday life.
The event is part of The Food Safety Girl's ongoing efforts to improve consumer awareness around food safety in Jamaica.
In addition to the food distribution and educational presentations, the event will serve as an opportunity to engage with local stakeholders, volunteers, and community leaders, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared responsibility for the health and safety of the Old Harbour community.
