Ghana announces visa free policy for continental Africa
This means that citizens from all African nations will no longer require a visa to enter the Gold Coast country.
With this move, set to take effect before President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo demits office January 7, 2025, Ghana becomes the fifth African country to allow free movement to its shores for those living on the continent.
Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin are the others.
The forthcoming policy aims to enhance intra-African travel, trade, and integration by removing visa requirements for all African passport holders. This move is expected to strengthen Ghana's position as a leader in promoting African unity and cooperation.
For decades there have been calls for free movement of Africans across the continent, exacerbated in recent times with the lifting of restrictions for some non-African nations.
Jamaica and Ghana have an established visa-free policy bi-lateral agreement for short-term visits.
