Gunman shot fatally after murder in Bartons
Detectives are still trying to ascertain the identity of the gunman who moments earlier about 7:45 pm had killed 44-year-old Marlon Warmington, a resident of Bartons.
According to a police preliminary report, Warmington was walking along the roadway in the community when two men rode up on a motorbike and shot him multiple times killing him on the spot.
The Old Harbour Police Station were immediately notified of the shooting and within minutes after receiving the report two men fitting the description of Warmington’s attackers were spotted by the police in the town centre.
A chase ensued between the gunmen and the police which ended with a shootout along a section of Highway 2000 in the vicinity of Sharper Lane, the police informed.
One of the gunmen was fatally shot while the other was accosted by the police and taken into custody.
Up to the time of writing the police have not released the identity of the gunman in custody. But Old Harbour News understands that he is from an address in Kingston.
Detectives say it is still early in establishing a motive behind the murder of Warmington but will continue to assess all possible scenarios into this probe.
Warmington, it is understood, was visiting the island on a short visit and slated to return to the United States tomorrow.
