Kemar Leslie takes OH Bay 5K run title
Leslie, running unattached, won with a time of 16 minutes and 58 seconds from a field of 49 competitors.
He crossed the finish line well ahead second-placed Waval Davis (17:17) and Odane Davidson (17:37), to continue his rich form at the moment following victory at the Reggae Half Marathon.
This was Leslie’s first time winning the event as he was beaten in 2019 and last year’s edition, a significant sign of his improvement.
Stadecia Willis was the first female to cross the line as she topped her division with a mark of 23 minutes and 35 seconds.
Willis came home ahead of Kayla Pictan (24:08) and Melaika Russell (25:28), who is also a national cyclist.
In the category for local residents, it was Mark Anderson (20:16) who claimed bragging rights over Shemar Bodley (21:30) and Ronaldo Reese (29:06).
The Old Harbour Bay 5K is one of the oldest and longest running road races in Jamaica, operating for the last 25 years.
It was founded by the late Olympian Neville Myton, a native of the community.
Myton died in 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
The event was subsequently rebranded in his honour.
The event also forms part of the Old Harbour Bay Community Homecoming, an annual festival featuring numerous activities to mark the occasion.
