NWC extends restoration timeline for Marlie Mount system

The restoration period of the National Water Commission (NWC) Marlie Mount pumping station has been extended for a few more days.

The company’s engineers are still working to restore the pump which had developed electrical and mechanical problems.

From September 21 the system was decommissioned to carry out the repairs which have impacted an estimated population of 10,000 residents.

Water woes continues for SW St Catherine communities

The utility company has since implemented emergency measures to lessen the impact of the disruption by redirecting water from another facility nearby.

However, the service being supplied on low pressure, and only residents living at the lower levels are able to access the commodity which is available during the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

Water is also being trucked to the affected communities namely Island Farm, Old Harbour Villa, and sections of Church Pen.

An NWC representative, who is not authorized to speak officially, informed Old Harbour News that the crew is pushing to have normal service return by September 28.
