Old Harbour family unhappy with investigation after loved one dies a month after being hit by truck

At 11:00 pm on June 10, 2019, 23-year-old Clarke was said to be using the pedestrian crossing on the Old Harbour main road at Marlie Mount when he was hit by a truck.

The incident left the Marlie Mount resident in a coma for days, but he was seemingly recovering to such an extent he was taken off life-support at the Kingston Public Hospital. His condition, however, turned for the worse before he died on July 16.

Petula Clarke, Jason’s aunt, said the family is not happy with the speed of the investigation as there is very little information coming from the police.

“All they have done is warned the driver of possible prosecution,” she told Old Harbour News. “And its more than two months now since Jason died.”

“If we don’t call them (the police) nobody call us. And all we keep hearing is that the investigation is still going on.”

Due to the slow turn around in getting an autopsy done in Jamaica, a post-mortem on the body was not done until recently, which stated the cause of death was due to trauma in the brain.
The funeral service is set for September 15.

“Jason is a sweet, nice, loving, caring person. Always happy,” Clarke said of her nephew, who was a bus conductor. “When you are around Jason you can’t get bored, you are always laughing. He’s always singing and dancing."

Old Harbour News was unsuccessful in its attempt to get a formal update from the police.
