It was the third time that Old Harbour High was winning the popular high school choir contest, cementing their status as one of the most successful schools in the competition’s history.

A perennial title challenger since inception, the school from South Street, Old Harbour dominated this season’s edition to finish ahead of Dinthill Technical and St Andrew High School for Girls.

Over the last 12 weeks hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans here and abroad were kept glued to their television screens and smart devices on a Sunday night, as each choir showcased a wide range of diversity in melody and stage performance across different musical genres.

The latest success of this non-traditional high school has not gone unnoticed by the Old Harbour and Friends Association, a charity group based in the United States.

In a letter to the school, the group offered “heartiest congratulations” while acknowledging the efforts of all the persons involved in preparing the choir “to secure such a well-deserved victory”.

“Indeed this group of students trained hard, worked well in unison and executed graciously to make the school and the community proud,” added the group, of which many of its members are past students. “Of course the journey wasn't easy, the competition was challenging, the weeks and months of training consumed a lot of your time and energy, but in the end you delivered; and are now celebrating sweet success.

“Old Harbour High,  we are proud of you, and look forward to welcoming more successes in  this and other aspects of the school's life.”
