Partner of man who died in Old Harbour fire leaves community after being questioned by cops

Firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze which razed a board dwelling and a motor vehicle in a yard on Marlin Crescent.

Whyte’s burnt body was discovered by firefighters during cooling down operations.

Since the tragic incident happened, a woman said to be the mother of Whyte’s child and with whom he had an on-and-off relationship with, was taken to the Old Harbour Police Station and questioned by detectives before being released.

Relatives of the deceased say she has since left the community after making conflicting comments regarding the death of Whyte.

Three houses exist on the premises, but less than a handful of dwellers were present when the fire broke out, Old Harbour News understands. Those present included Whyte’s elderly mother and estranged partner who has a daughter for him.

“At first she se she no know weh Larry de, then when dem start pressure har she se him in de inna the building,” a relative of Whyte told Old Harbour News but requested that their name is not published.

Investigation is still at an early stage the police say and are unable to make any definitive statement on the matter at this time, except to say that the questioning of the woman was a formality given her relationship with the deceased.

Whyte, a labourer, is survived by three daughters and two grandchildren.
