Jamaicans at large and residents of the community are eager to hear of a breakthrough of a homicide that has rocked the entire country.

On November 2 the bodies of 69-year-old Justice of the Peace and retired educator Christine Lewis and her physically and mentally challenged sister Lola Lewis, 73, were found in separate bedrooms inside their home with their throats slashed.

The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves both home and in the Diaspora.

On Thursday afternoon, some 60 residents staged a peaceful march against crime and violence in response to the double homicide.

In the last week or so investigation has intensified with several persons inside the community taken into custody. They have been released save and except for one man who the police have listed as the main suspect.

His identity has not been released as he’s yet to be charged.

It is understand that detectives are of the view that they are closer to a breakthrough, as they await forensic data still pending.

Among those who marched with the residents is SSP Christopher Phillips, head of the St Catherine South Police Division.

Providing an update to residents, SSP Christopher Phillips reassured citizens that the police are pulling out all the stops, while asking them to exercise patience at this crucial moment.

“Four persons were taken into custody, three were released and one is still in custody where we are banking heavily on the forensic evidence and what that can bring for us,” he said.

The matter is also being handled by detectives from the Major Investigation Division (MID), a normal procedure for multiple murders. But at every stage of the investigation he’s being updated by his counterpart at the MID, SSP Phillips said.
