Suspect linked to murder of elderly sisters in police custody

The suspect is said to be well known to the deceased and native of the Spring Village community which is situated four miles east of Old Harbour.

It has been confirmed that he, along with three other men, was picked up yesterday by detectives during a pre-dawn operation. 

The police have refused to comment on the latest development of a homicide that has not only jolted the district and its roughly 8,000 inhabitants, but the entire country.

The identity of the suspect cannot be revealed as formal charges have not been laid, while detectives do not want to compromise the investigation which is ongoing.

Christine, 69, a retired teacher and Justice of the Peace and her 73-year-old disabled sister, were both found dead by a friend inside their home on the morning of November 2.

Their throats were slashed. It is theorized by detectives that they were killed about three days ago before their partially decomposing bodies were discovered.

Meantime, it is further understood that more persons are being sought for various roles played in the death of the Lewis sisters.

A man said to be an associate of the suspect  in custody, was last night shot dead about 8:40 pm in the Island Farm community in the Gutters area.

He has been identified as 22-year-old Romario Harvey, also called ‘Worm’ of a Spring Village address.

The deceased found by residents on his back in a pool of water along the roadway after several loud explosions, sounding like gunshots, were heard.

The Old Harbour police were summoned and his body transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, were a doctor on staff officially pronounced him dead.

Investigation is at a very sensitive point, Old Harbour News understands, as detectives peruse several pieces of vital information that could possibly enable them to make an early breakthrough.
