Two men fatally shot in shootout with Old Harbour police

The deceased have been identified as 43-year-old taxi driver Rohan Gordon, also known as ‘Squeeze,’ and 29-year-old labourer Demar Muirhead, alias ‘Teeco.’ Both men were residents of Old Harbour Bay, with Gordon hailing from the ‘Bay Bottom’ area and Muirhead from the ‘Terminal’ neighborhood. Following the incident, two illegal firearms and ammunition were reportedly seized by authorities.

According to reports received by Old Harbour News, the incident occurred around 3:40 a.m. today when officers from the Old Harbour police’s Operational Specialized Team (OST) were patrolling the Terminal area. They were allegedly met with gunfire from a group of four men, including Gordon and Muirhead.

Detective Inspector Carl Morris, the chief investigator at the Old Harbour Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), stated that the officers took defensive positions and returned fire. After the exchange, Gordon and Muirhead were discovered with gunshot wounds, while the other two men managed to flee. Investigators are still determining whether the fleeing individuals were injured during the shootout.

Both injured men were rushed to the hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Preliminary reports suggest that the group was allegedly involved in the illegal removal of copper wires from a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) power plant, an area frequently targeted by criminals.

Detective Inspector Morris used the incident to warn individuals against confronting law enforcement, emphasizing that the police remain unwavering in their efforts to combat crime and rid Old Harbour of criminal elements.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
