Clive Brown, NWC manager for the Old Harbour zone, told Old Harbour News that his team had a real challenge on their hands to restore normal service to the affected communities with an approximate population of over 10,000 residents.
Brown was also quick to explain to Old Harbour News that the disruption, which residents have been experiencing since Sunday of this week does not form part of the planned maintenance schedule at the facility.
The NWC had originally advised that the Spring Village Well will be taken out of commission this week, before revising the planned works to run from May 6-12.
Brown’s comments to bring clarity to the issue became necessary after several affected customers wrote to Old Harbour News complaining about the disruption being experienced in the last 72 hours.
“If the schedule for NWC changed to May 6, why are we not having water now? Is it that we won’t have water this week and next week? Please if you can, get some clarity for us,” Flo Nelson, a resident of Nightingale Grove, said.
“Although the pending disruption of water was pushed to May 6th, we are still experiencing water lock-off since April 30th in Nightingale Grove. Now that was not expected and so how do we now store water for the new dates,” said Annmarie Campbell. “When should we expect the return of the water supply? Can we get an explanation please? Is there a glitch in the communication channel? Persons would not have had adequate water in storage for the period one week before, so how will be able to store that which we do not have?”
Checks on the NWC usually reliable social media platforms which posts frequent advisories still indicate the original maintenance work schedule of April 30 to May 4.
Another customer who gave his name only as Ian says having called the NWC’s customer care centre, it is obvious there is a breakdown in communication.
“The young miss I spoke to today is still telling me about the old advisory and I have to keep telling her that that information is not accurate because NWC was in the area last week issuing flyers to residents informing them of the new schedule.
“And so I hang up feeling frustrated because nobody could give me any explanation what is causing this problem why we don’t have any water from Sunday,” said the home owner.
However, by late this evening service was restored to the affected communities which include Spring Village, Nightingale Grove, Gutters, Bushy Park and surrounding areas.
