The voice of a man could be heard saying that the video was being shot from his Pine Bay home where choppy storm surges stand 12-18 feet above normal tide levels with wave heights 3.3-5.5 metres high.
Five persons are reported dead, Bahamian Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis announced, while 13,000 homes have been destroyed by the category 5 storm.
In the last 24 hours the group of islands has been battered by winds of up to 165mph (265 km/h) with the storm remaining stationary over the area for the last 10 hours.
In its latest update the National Weather Service in Miami said a significant weather advisory remains in effect for eastern Palm Beach county and Northeast Broward county until 12am EDT as the hurricane moves towards the US state of Florida.
