It’s not uncommon for tide to rise in these parts of southwest St Catherine, but when it does folks are usually caught flatfooted as the tide crashes several feet inland.

Glenroy Brown of the Meteorological Service of Jamaica says the high tide is due to a massive high pressure system creating waves in excess of 12 feet.

According to Brown this particular weather pattern is expected to linger until January 16.

Several advisories were issued in advance warning the public to anticipate this change in weather and to avoid any beach or sea activities, the Met Service said.
