Six charged in Old Harbour burglary bust

Those charged with shop breaking and larceny are Leon Buchanan, who is 24 years old; Deshon ‘Scaro’ Thompson, 26, a mechanic of North Street; Mickel Richards, 23, of Red Ground; and 20-year-old Romell Young. Succaba resident Andre Rowe, 25 and Dorial Blake, 24, of Goulbourne Lane have also been charged with receiving stolen property in relation to the bust.

Investigation is that Buchanan, Thompson, Richards and Young conspired and broke into Mother and Son Skate Land and online company, Wilson’s List – both located within close proximity of each other – on Ascot Drive.

The crime took place sometime between May 29 and June 1 after the proprietors reported at the Old Harbour Police Station that a break-in had occurred at their establishment.

Investigators managed to put together several pieces of evidence including surveillance camera footage which led them to Buchanan’s home on Ascot Drive. A search warrant on Buchanan’s home was executed during which one of the stolen items – a backpack valued $10,000 – was recovered. Buchanan, otherwise called ‘Troubles’, found himself in deeper trouble as he was arrested by detectives on reasonable suspicion. The arrest of Buchanan triggered a domino effect, as the culprit escorted officers to Young’s home in Claremont Gardens where more items belonging to Wilson’s List were identified.

Both Young and Buchanan then led detectives to the homes of their other partners in crime where additional stolen items were seized.

Among the filched items the police recovered numerous high valued Smart TVs, laptops, backpacks, PS4 consoles and gaming headsets, Xbox wireless controller and Nike footwear.

Last week, Thompson and Buchanan both gave caution statements in the presence of their attorneys, following which they were subsequently charged.

The men are scheduled to appear before the Old Harbour Parish Court on June 25.

Yesterday, DSP Damion Manderson lauded the efforts of the investigation led by Detective Constable Cherrick Dorah.

Speaking on the major breakthrough of the case, DSP Manderson said those charged “are now abiding in the discomfort of the people’s facility – newly refurbished at the Old Harbour (Police) Station – and they will not be let loose unless the judiciary choose otherwise”.
“We have your back,” the Old Harbour top cop told vendors, members of the business community and the municipal corporation. “But unfortunately there are some persons who seemingly don’t have your back and they don’t wish for order to reign because, of course, they thrive on it.”
