Samuda helps Red Ground fire victims
The family of four is now temporarily residing with relatives after their two-bedroom board dwelling was razed last week Wednesday night.
Andrea Bennett, her common-law husband and their four and 10 year-old daughters lost everything in a blaze they are yet to determine its origin.
Residents worked frantically together to save other board homes next door from being engulfed, Old Harbour News has been told.
But in the aftermath of the unfortunate incident Samuda says getting the family back on their feet as quickly as possible is of immediate priority.
"I visited the family twice Thursday morning after learning about the fire on Facebook,” Samuda, the People's National Party (PNP) caretaker for the Old Harbour North Division, said.
The entrepreneur and head honcho of Kaluga Kafe said he has provided aid to the family "in the form of medication, grocery, furniture and a stove," but a lot more needs to be done.
The young politician, who is a born a bred native of northern Old Harbour, said he has been in dialog with the family daily and is using his network to seek additional help.
"Other persons have been reaching out to me to offer assistance to the family," he added during a chat with Old Harbour News. "Three persons from overseas have reached out to me to provide assistance."
To make it clear Samuda said there is no political motive behind his willingness to assist the family who he did not know prior to their devastating ordeal.
"It's more of an assistance that we're looking to provide. There's no budget of the sort. Basically they are the ones spearheading their next move. They have already gone to the Parish Council. So what we are providing through my donors is just assistance. So it's not a project that I'm taking on," he explained.
