A section of Burke Road, Old Harbour where Kemar Sharma was brutally murdered.
A 36-year-old Old Harbour resident was slaughtered in barbaric fashion early this morning.
He has been identified as Kemar Sharma, a labourer, popularly known as ‘Baby Two’.
According to the police about 1:30 am, Sharma was at a premises on Burke Road when four armed men barged into the house and shot him in the head execution style.
The gunmen – one armed with a M16 rifle while the others sported handguns – then dragged Sharma’s body outside onto the street and shot him multiple times.
Based on information gathered so far, the police said that Sharma was asleep when the men broke into the house, accosted the occupants and seized their mobile phones before carrying out the gruesome killing.
The gunmen then escaped before the police arrived. A motive behind the killing is yet to be established.
According to investigators Sharma, who is from the adjoining community of North Street, was a known violence producer in the area. He was charged on many occasions for crimes committed during his adult life.
Last October, investigators said, he was released from prison after serving time on charges of wounding with intent, illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation committed in 2008.
Since his return from captivity, police said intelligence fingered Sharma as the man allegedly behind an emerging extortion ring in the Old Harbour space.
Meantime, newly appointed commander in charge of the Old Harbour police zone DSP Mark Harris said he “is concerned about the gruesome killing” and is committed to solving “this serious crime”.
DSP Harris informed Old Harbour News that head of St Catherine South Police Division Supt. Christopher Phillips has been “briefed accordingly and pledge his support to the investigation”.
