A domestic dispute has resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man and is the first recorded murder in the Old Harbour police area for 2022.
Dead is Donate Gordon, an unemployed resident of Church Pen Housing Scheme.
The incident occurred at the family home in the community where Donate lives with his aunt Janice Livingston, the police said.
According to investigators, about 11:30 pm yesterday, an argument developed between the aunt and nephew.
Livingston’s boyfriend, 23-year-old Tajhae Hall, who was visiting at the time, attempted to intervene but the situation escalated into a physical fight between both young men.
The two were separated by relatives, at which point Livingston and her fiancé shut themselves in her room.
By then, however, Gordon now armed with a knife, barged into the room, attacked Hall and stabbed him in the left-hand and left-side, said the report.
Hall the police stated further, managed to wrestle the knife from Gordon and stabbed in the left side of the abdomen.
Both injured men were assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital by Livingston and other relatives.
Gordon died while undergoing emergency treatment, while Hall received treatment under police guard.
Based on in the investigation so far, DSP Mark Harris told Old Harbour News that the incident “could have been avoided”.
“They were separated but one return and attack the other one. The accused was taken to the hospital and treated under our watch and is still in our custody as we speak,” said the sub-division’s police chief.
