Gangster linked to Old Harbour murders arrested in Cayman

According to the Cayman Islands media, Shaw was processed by the police and handed over to Customs and Border Control for deportation to Jamaica where several warrants are out for his arrest in connection to multiple murders committed in Spanish Town and Old Harbour.

Here in Jamaica, Shaw, who goes by the alias ‘Boxer’, is listed by the police as the leader of the Wildlife Gang based in central St Catherine.

Police investigators say the Wildlife Gang is one of the main groups involved in the recent flare-up of gun violence and murders in the Spanish Town communities of Homestead, Tawes Pen and 31 St John’s Road.

In May 2019 Shaw, along with Rojay ‘Biggy’ Reid and Neville Bucknor also known as ‘Mark’, was arrested and charged for the April 2019 murder of Romaine ‘Pancho’ Robinson who was gunned down in broad daylight at Lincoln Plaza, Old Harbour.

All three men were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Gun Court on May 29, 2019 in relation to the murder of Robinson. They were given a return date of June 13, 2019 and subsequently offered bail.

While out on bail, Shaw was fingered by detectives as one of three men who carried out the February 2020 gun attack in Old Harbour Glades that claimed the life of 57-year-old Laetitia Francis, who is the mother of police corporal Fernando Daley.

Providing details on how Shaw was nabbed, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service reported that during an operation about 12:30 pm, officers from its firearm response unit were driving a marked service vehicle when their unit approached a vehicle with two occupants, one of whom was later identified as Shaw. 

“The occupants of the vehicle attempted to evade the police and rammed into the police vehicle, causing their vehicle to become disabled,” the police stated in a press release. 

“Armed officers approached and attempted to detain the men, who ignored instructions and attempted to flee.  Police captured the wanted man, while the other man escaped on foot.

“The man that escaped is described as approximately 5’9” in height, of slim build and dark complexion, with short hair, and was wearing blue jeans, and white sleeveless shirt.”

“The Cayman Islands is not a safe haven for criminals.  We are working with our colleagues in Jamaica on this case and believe the man arrived on island by boat.  An active search is underway to locate and arrest the other person.  It’s a criminal offence to aid or assist a person who is wanted by the authorities, including those who are here illegally,” said Detective Superintendent Peter Lansdown in the release.
