Man fatally shot by Old Harbour cops
The dead man is yet to be identified, while an illegal gun has been recovered from the scene.
A senior police officer informed Old Harbour News that about 3:00 am today, officers responded to sounds of gunshots in the area approximately 50 metres away from the police station.
Upon reaching the area, the police were greeted with gunfire. Officers, the senior cop said, took the necessary evasive action and return fire after which one man was found dead.
Due to the situation on the ground, a large section of East Street has been cordon off by the police, with members of the public urged to use alternate routes to access the town centre.
This is the second such confrontation within the last 24 hours between cops at the Old Harbour Police Station and gunmen.
Around midnight Thursday a man fired at cops in front of the station after he was pointed by men who reported that they were robbed by the shooter on a bus moments earlier. The gunman managed to escape onto North Street but left an illegal gun behind.
